after someone from Facebook - no names - called Sara :-P envied my PC for staying 7-days Up-time. i found that the GUI is totally damn gone crazy. now i have to export everything before installing the new one.
i'll have to set @ the laptop till this disaster pass by :-0
let's see what can we do for this:
1- checking the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents"... it contains all data stored in "Shared Documents" and appears on the network under the name "SharedDocs"
2- our user folder "C:\Documents and Settings\SOHON"
3- "C:\Documents and Settings\SOHON\Application Data\Google\GoogleEarth" here the Places marked as (My Places) exist in the file: "myplaces.kml"
4- Using Internet download manger (IDMan)?? any uncompleted downloads is in "C:\Documents and Settings\SOHON\Application Data\IDM\DwnlData\SOHON". i can easily export the download queue.
open "IDMan.exe", follow the menu: Tasks => Export => To IDM export file => Export all files => type a name for the file
5- Using Outlook Express to get your messages?
open Outlook then File => Export => Address Book (for your contacts), choose Text File (CSV), name your file, mark all fields.
File => Export => Messages (for your messages). if it doesn't work due to MAPI error, open path "C:\Documents and Settings\SOHON\Local Settings\Application DataIdentities\{B4F825D9-E922-4F70-8BD1-931209BC7E6B}\Microsoft\Outlook Express" of course numbers and user name will differ. you got all your mail boxes. copy them.
for mail accounts: Tools => Accounts, mark your accounts and press Export, one by one.
6- For FireFox:
first i import data from IE, File => Import => Microsoft IE and mark all, this step if you'll never use IE again!!
Bookmarks: Bookmarks => Organize Bookmarks => File => Export. if FireFox is damaged open "C:\Documents and Settings\SOHON\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ptt21onj.default" and copy "bookmarks.html". "cookies.txt" is where your cookies stored in the previous folder. "formhistory.dat" is where the auto-complete data. "history.dat" is history.
7- Cookies for IE6: File => Import and Export => Export Favorites, Export Cookies
or "C:\Documents and Settings\SOHON\Favorites" for Favorites only
8- Desktop Items: "C:\Documents and Settings\SOHON\Desktop"
9- My Documents: "C:\Documents and Settings\SOHON\My Documents"
10- MSN saved chat - if you select it: "C:\Documents and Settings\SOHON\My Documents\My Received Files"
11- Yahoo saved chat: "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles" - note that unlike MSN; these conversations can never be opened without the owner's password
12- any installed Fonts: "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts"
13- used to open more than one yahoo account at a time?
Start Menu => Run => type "regedit"
expand: HKEY_CURRENT_USER >> Software >> yahoo >> pager >> test
right click on the right empty panel: New => DWORD value, type "Plural" as the name, double click it, type "1" in the value data box.
Unfortunately some things can't be migrated to another windows:
1- Internet Explorer saved passwords and forms, you can only copy them to FireFox as in step 6
2- Passwords from FireFox, you can show them: Tools => Options => Security => press the button (Show Passwords) => pres the button (Show Passwords) to view it really.
